The University of Washington Tuberculosis Research & Training Center (TRTC) was established in 2017 with the mission to provide training and educational opportunities, foster clinical- and basic- science collaborative research opportunities, and create a hub for local and international investigators to come together for greater TB research success. Established with support from the UW Departments of Medicine and Global Health, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the TRTC organizes a communication network among TB researchers, monthly research seminars, annual symposia promoting collaboration between clinical/epidemiologic and basic science/translational investigators, and financial support for trainees.

The TRTC has over 50 faculty members with primary (14 at UW, 14 at affiliated organizations) and secondary (17 at UW, 9 at affiliated organizations) TB research interests and a diverse span of UW Schools, Departments and Divisions as well as 8 non-UW organizations and institutes in Seattle. The TRTC includes faculty conducting a full spectrum of scientific research on TB, including fields of pathophysiology, immunology, diagnostics, clinical epidemiology, social sciences, and economic modeling. Our investigators have a wide range of collaborations, both among themselves and with numerous national and international organizations and universities.
